2D Technical Drawings

How to generate, customize, and export 2D technical drawings with dimensions, annotations, and multiple views.

1. Overview

ExCoil automatically generates professional 2D technical drawings for every calculated coil. The drawings include front view and side view with full dimension annotations, following industry-standard engineering drawing conventions. These drawings are suitable for manufacturing, procurement, and installation documentation.

2. Available Views

Front View

Shows the coil face as seen from the air inlet side. Includes:

  • FH (Fin Height) and FL (Fin Length) — finned surface dimensions
  • CH (Casing Height) and CL (Casing Length) — overall casing dimensions
  • OAL (Overall Length) — total length including headers
  • Connection positions (Supply and Return)
  • Air flow direction arrows

Side View

Shows the coil depth profile. Includes:

  • CD (Coil Depth) — depth of the finned section
  • Number of rows visible in cross-section
  • Header extensions and connection sizes

3. Dimension Reference

AbbreviationNameDescription
FHFin HeightHeight of the finned surface = tubes × Pt + margin
FLFin LengthLength of the finned surface (coil width)
CHCasing HeightFH + 2 × casing margin (typically 38.1 mm)
CLCasing LengthFL + 2 × casing margin
CDCoil DepthNumber of rows × longitudinal pitch (Pl)
OALOverall LengthTotal length including header extensions

4. Dimension Editing

ExCoil allows you to customize certain dimensions after calculation:

  • Casing margins can be adjusted for custom enclosures
  • Header extension lengths can be modified
  • Connection positions can be repositioned

Changes to dimensions are saved with the project and reflected in PDF exports. The drawing automatically updates when you modify coil geometry parameters.

5. PDF Export

Technical drawings are included in the PDF report generated from the calculator. The report includes both views with all dimensions, the coil code, and construction specifications. Use the 'PDF Report' button in the calculator toolbar to generate and download.
