How ExCoil calculates, what it exports and where its limits are.
Calculations
Which heat exchangers can I calculate?
DX evaporators, air-cooled condensers, chilled water coils, hot water coils, steam coils, dry coolers and, with the add-on, shell-and-tube heat exchangers.
Where do the refrigerant properties come from?
From tables generated with CoolProp 7.2 using the HEOS backend for 16 refrigerants, with a SHA-256 manifest that makes the data traceable.
Which correlations are used?
Among others: Wang–Chi–Chang for the air side, Schmidt fin efficiency, VDI/Gnielinski for water, Chato/Shah for steam condensation, Domanski–Hermes for return bends and Bell-Delaware for the shell side.
Can I use my own units?
Yes. Choose SI, US HVAC or refrigeration packs, or set the unit of each field and save a custom pack. Internally every calculation is done in SI.
Are the results certified?
No. ExCoil produces engineering estimates for selection and design. Certification, code calculations and test validation remain with the designer and manufacturer.
Drawings and files
Which files can I export?
PDF reports, CSV and JSON data and DXF drawings on Professional; STL and STEP 3D models on Enterprise and in the shell-and-tube add-on.
Do the drawings follow the calculated geometry?
Yes. Circuitry, headers and connections are derived from the same model used by the calculation, so the drawing, 3D model, BOM and report match.
Which materials are available?
21 materials, including copper, aluminium alloys, stainless steel 304 and 316, carbon steel, copper-nickel, titanium, duplex and nickel alloys.
Account and data
Do I need to install anything?
No. ExCoil runs in a modern browser. It can also be installed as a web app on desktop and mobile.
Who can see my projects?
Only your account. Projects are stored on our servers and are not shared with other users.
Which languages are available?
The website is available in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Hindi and Arabic. The calculators are available in English and Portuguese.
