Steam heating coils

Steam coil sizing and rating software

Calculate heating capacity, steam consumption, condensate flow and pressure drop for steam coils. In-tube condensation, saturation temperature and pressure drop are solved together, and sizing checks hydraulic feasibility.

Calculator included in the free plan · The calculator interface is available in English and Portuguese.

3D model of a steam coil with steam inlet and condensate outlet generated by ExCoil

Real application screenshot

What it calculates

  • Rating and sizing modes
  • In-tube condensation with Chato and Shah correlations
  • Saturation properties from CoolProp between 20 and 2000 kPa absolute
  • Pressure drop coupled to the saturation temperature
  • Steam and condensate header sizing from the real mass flow

Results and deliverables

  • Heating capacity and leaving air temperature
  • Steam consumption and condensate flow
  • Steam-side pressure drop and saturation drop
  • PDF report and drawings according to your plan

How the steam model works

Steam flow is derived from capacity divided by latent heat plus condensate subcooling at the real absolute pressure. Steam headers are sized for vapour velocity and condensate headers for gravity drainage, each with its own target.

  • Chato / Shah in-tube condensation
  • CoolProp saturation table, 20–2000 kPa
  • Coupled pressure drop and saturation temperature
  • Wang–Chi–Chang air side

Know the limits

  • Steam traps, vacuum breakers and freeze protection are outside the scope.
  • Superheated steam inlet is not modelled; the inlet is saturated.

Frequently asked questions

What steam pressures are supported?

Saturated steam from 20 to 2000 kPa absolute, using a CoolProp-generated saturation table.

Does ExCoil size the condensate connection?

Yes. Condensate headers are sized for gravity drainage from the real condensate flow, separately from the steam header.
